We're so glad you want to learn more about our historic school!

We’re proud of our Progressive roots and founder, Sue Riley. Established in 1966, Open Door School was the first integrated preschool in Charlotte, NC. You can read more here if you’d like to learn about what made (and makes!) us unique.

Tours happen Monday – Friday between 9:30 and 11:30. Please email Suzy or call us at (704) 364-1521 to schedule your tour. Find more info about tours and registration here.

Play is often talked about as if it was a relief from serious learning, but for children, play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.

A great way to learn more about our school is by following us on Facebook or Instagram. We frequently post photos and news about events.

We also have an active Family Community Association (FCA), which plans community-building events and adult education forums. They also coordinate fundraising efforts for our Sue Riley Scholarship Fund. If you’d like more info about our FCA, contact them here.
